The Emmys Are Coming!

The 2015 Emmy Awards will take place this Sunday in Los Angeles, and here at ITM we’ve made our predictions to see who’s gonna take TV’s greatest awards!  Watch the show with your friends, and prove you know best when they win (and if our predictions are right)!  Some ITM favorites are in the nominees, so we’ll be rooting for them!  The Emmys will be broadcast this Sunday, September 20th on Fox.

Better Call Saul

While some may argue that Mad Men deserves an award for its stellar final season, the show has already won in the past.  Surprisingly, fan and critics favorite Game of Thrones has never won in this category, so it’s a safe bet to assume it will finally get the award.  However, there could be an upset on the cards by Orange is the New Black that moved categories from comedies to drama.

As with the Outstanding Drama Series category, this race is very, very tight.  This was a very good year for comedy.  Old shows had some very solid seasons, and new shows Transparent and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt were a revelation.  Modern Family and Veep seem like the clear shoe-ins, but maybe expect a sentimental vote for Parks and Recreation and its stellar final season.

Amy Schumer (Inside Amy Schumer)

Two of the favorites in this category are friends of ITM!  Of course, Amy Schumer has taken the world by storm, recently, but her show being a sketch show might dissuade some of the voters. The safest bets are Lily Tomlin (who was on Movies You Wanna Watch talking about her movie Grandma) and Amy Poehler (also a MYWW friend) for her final bow as Leslie Knope.  Poehler has never won an Emmy for her role, so she might get a sentimental nod this year.

While the women’s category is a tight race, for this year’s men’s race in comedy there’s only one obvious choice: Jeffrey Tambor for his amazing performance as “Maura” in Transparent. Louis C. K. and Will Forte gave very good performances this year, but in terms of acting, Tambor outclassed the both of them.

We’re disappointed neither Laverne Cox or Taylor Schilling didn’t make the acting category for her role in Orange is the New Black, but it would have been hard to see them win it with such tight competition.  The winner will be either Viola Davis or Taraji P. Henson.  Davis is a tremendous actress, as is Henson, but I expect Henson to win because Empire was snubbed in all other categories.  There could be an upset on the cards if Robin Wright gets it for her role in… House of Cards. Get it?

Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan)

Another men’s category with a clear-cut winner.  Odenkirk and Jeff Daniels were fantastic in their roles, but Odenkirk’s show is on its first season, and Daniels already won an Emmy for The Newsroom.  The award has to go to Jon Hamm for his dazzling performance as Don Draper in the final season of the hit AMC show Mad Men.

Allison Janney deservedly won this award last year, and many have touted her to do it again.  My guess is that they’ll give the award to either Mayim Bialik (the academy seems to love The Big Bang Theory for some reason) or to Kate McKinnon.  McKinnon has been the standout performer on SNL ever since she arrived on the show.  She’s a multitalented performer who deserves the award.

Finally a men’s category that’s interesting!  This is one of the most contested awards of the night.  Every single one of the performers in this category was either a beacon in their respective shows.  Ty Burell continues to be the funniest actor in Modern Family, as does Andre Braugher in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.  Adam Driver and Tony Hale added a lot of depth and emotion to their characters this season.  The standouts might just be Tituss Burgess for his hilarious performance and Keegan-Michael Key for his versatility.  I go for Key, but it’s really anyone’s choice.

Uzo Aduba might get some votes for her performance as Crazy Eyes, and it might be Orange is the New Black’s only acting award.  However, Heady’s performance on Game of Thrones was a constant in a season of ups and downs.  Her final three episodes were show-stealers, so expect her to win the prize.

Interesting category as the two new shows introduced very strong performances.  Banks reprises his role as Mike Ehrmantraut and Ben Mendelsohn (coming soon to MYWW!) did a stellar job in Bloodline. However, the Academy seems to love The Good Wife, and it might be its only big award of the night, so Cumming might get some love.
