ATTACK IN NICE, FRANCE: TERRORISM OR NOT?
A truck sped down the crowded seaside promenade in Nice, France around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. The police shot the driver and stopped the truck.
At least 84 people were killed, and 202 injured.
Government officials identified the driver as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, 31, a delivery-truck driver raised in northeast Tunisia who moved to France around 2005.
President Francois Hollande called it a terrorist attack and convened an emergency meeting at the Interior Ministry in Paris. He said that a state of emergency established after the Paris attacks eight months ago would be extended by an additional three months.
As of now, the motive behind the tragedy is unknown. No radical Islamist groups have claimed responsibility.
