AEROSMITH FRONTMAN, LEGENDARY SINGER/SONGWRITER, STEVEN TYLER IS GIVING AWAY HIS HARD CORE ROCKER IMAGE TO GO SOLO AND HELP ABUSED GIRLS IN NEED!

Gina Giordan

TONIGHT...MUSIC YOU WANNA HEAR!

STEVEN TYLER'S FIRST SOLO PERFORMANCE AT LINCON CENTER!

BUY TICKETS NOW!  YOU STILL HAVE A CHANCE TO OWN A PIECE OF ROCK N ROLL HISTORY FOR A WORTHY CAUSE!

Steven Tyler fans today is the day...Tonight, in NYC, you can witness the legendary iconic singer and songwriter, Steven Tyler perform live at his first solo concert at Lincoln Center with the help of Award-Winning Director, Brett Ratner to benefit Janie's Fund.  That's right, Tyler fans don't have to "Dream On" anymore, you can own Steven's beloved Hennessy Venom GT Spyder to be auctioned off tonight at his Lincoln Center, concert.

Tyler and NYPD in front of his Venom GT Spyder on 58th Street and Madison Avenue

Tyler's been in NYC since Saturday night, where he kicked off his fundraising festivities with Dujour Magazine and Dujour CEO, Jason Binn who hosted a rockin' event at Lavo in mid-town manhattan, in honor of Aerosmith frontman, Steven Tyler's "OUT ON A LIMB" first solo concert tonight at Lincoln Center to benefit his organization, Janie's Fund.

Upon arrival at the Dujour event, the legendary musician was ready to mingle, Tyler posed for one last round of pictures with his "baby" a Venom GT Spyder about to be auctioned off tonight to benefit Janie's Fund.  Several hundred fans and press gathered on the street to capture the monumental moment.

A few NYPD officers and obvious fans just happened to be passing by and joked they would write him a ticket for being parked illegally.  Tyler happily posed with the officers for pictures and the crowd of guests and fans went wild.

Tyler eventually brought the party inside where the rock icon posed for more pictures, talked to fans and addressed the entire room with a personal message,  "Janie's Fund changes lives!"

In an exclusive interview with THE WANNA host, Gina Giordan,Tyler shared why he felt the timing was right to donate the car to Janie's Fund, Tyler explained, "I bought that car from John Hennessy  five years ago while I was doing (American) Idol and it's the fastest car in the world.  It's my baby but, I keep her in the parking lot of the Sunset Marquis in LA and i'm in Nashville doing a record and it just like kills me."

Just a few years ago, Tyler partnered with Youth Villages and created Janie's Fund to benefit abused young girls and women.  Youth Villages CEO, Patrick Lawler is hoping the car helps raise thousands when auctioned off tonight at Tylers benefit solo concert at Lincoln Center and said, "We hope it will raise a million.  Steven said when he wrote "Janie's Got A Gun" in 1989 that he got bounds of letters from young girls and women that had been horribly abused and he said that hearing their stories made him think I wanna do something to help young people.  He'd been looking for a charity for years when he learned about our work a couple of years ago.  He said I wanna support your organization and he's been involved with every aspect of it since."

Jennifer Rhodes is a bright, vibrant young woman that has grown up a part of the Youth Villages programs.  Rhodes is living proof Tyler and Janie's Fund have made a real impact on her life.  Rhodes who has met Tyler several times and was part of a group of girls who had dinner with the famous rocker earlier in the evening told us, "Steven is real with us!  And, I would not be here with out them helping me every step of the way!"

There is one person who is near and dear to Tyler that will not be there in person at his concert tonight, Steven's Father Pianist, Victor Tallarico who passed away, September 10, 2011.

Tallarico attended Columbia University and Juilliard was a beloved music teacher at Cardinal Spellman High School for more than 15+ years in Bronx, NY.

Tyler admitted it means a lot when fans share their stories about this father, "A lot of people come up and say Victor Talarico taught me music.  It makes my heart feel good."

Tyler's father may not be there in person tonight to see his son's Lincoln Center solo performance, but Steven said he believes his Dad is always there in spirit, "He's up there watching.  He's loving it!"

If you are reading this before 8pm EST, then you can still purchase tickets to Steven Tyler's "OUT ON A LIMB" benefit concert tonight at Lincoln Center and bid on Tyler's very own beloved Venom GT Spyder to benefit Janie's Fund.

For more info and how to donate to Janie's Fund, log onto Janiesfund.org.

If you can't 'make it tonight, Tyler is set to headline several upcoming solo performances to promote his upcoming country album.  You can catch him at LaconiaFest on June 15, 2016.  If all else fails, next year may be your last shot to witness Tyler in action.  Just be prepared it may be a Farewell tour for Tyler and the rest of the Aerosmith.  In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Tyler said, ""I'm doing 30 [solo] shows from May until August," Tyler told Rolling Stone. "And, then in 2017 we go out with Aerosmith. We're probably doing a farewell tour. Look, there's two bands that still have the original members, us and the Stones. I'm grateful for that. Whether we do a farewell tour or go into the studio and do another record, I'm just excited about it."

Be sure to tune into THE WANNA to catch Tyler's full interview and updates on Janie's Fund!

THE BOSS, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN CANCELS HIS NORTH CAROLINA CONCERT IN SUPPORT OF THE LGBT COMMUNITY!

Gina Giordan

Bruce Springsteen cancels North Carolina concert over 'bathroom law'

Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, praised the news that Bruce Springsteen is cancelling a concert this weekend in North Carolina due to the state’s radical and extreme new anti-LGBT law – HB 2 – that was rammed through the legislature on March 23rd.

“Bruce Springsteen is a hero and an icon because he gives voice, both through his music and his advocacy, to those who struggle against injustice and equality,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “It means so much that he has spoken out against this hateful bill on behalf of thousands of citizens whose rights and fundamental dignity are being trampled by the leadership of North Carolina.”

In announcing the decision, Springsteen said: “As you, my fans, know I’m scheduled to play in Greensboro, North Carolina this Sunday. As we also know, North Carolina has just passed HB2, which the media are referring to as the “bathroom” law.  HB2 — known officially as the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act — dictates which bathrooms transgender people are permitted to use. Just as important, the law also attacks the rights of LGBT citizens to sue when their human rights are violated in the workplace. No other group of North Carolinians faces such a burden. To my mind, it’s an attempt by people who cannot stand the progress our country has made in recognizing the human rights of all of our citizens to overturn that progress. Right now, there are many groups, businesses, and individuals in North Carolina working to oppose and overcome these negative developments. Taking all of this into account, I feel that this is a time for me and the band to show solidarity for those freedom fighters. As a result, and with deepest apologies to our dedicated fans in Greensboro, we have canceled our show scheduled for Sunday, April 10th. Some things are more important than a rock show and this fight against prejudice and bigotry — which is happening as I write — is one of them. It is the strongest means I have for raising my voice in opposition to those who continue to push us backwards instead of forwards.”

H.B. 2 has eliminated existing municipal non-discrimination protections for LGBT people and prevents such protections from being passed by cities in the future. The legislation also forces transgender students in public schools to use restrooms and other facilities inconsistent with their gender identity, putting 4.5 billion dollars in federal funding under Title IX at risk. It also compels the same type of discrimination against transgender people to take place in state buildings, including in public universities. Lawmakers passed the legislation in a hurried, single-day session, and Governor McCrory quickly signed it into law in the dead of night.

North Carolina is the first state in the country to enact a law attacking transgender students, even after similar proposals were rejected across the country this year -- including a high-profile veto by the Republican Governor Dennis Daugaard of South Dakota.

North Carolina school districts that comply with the law will now be in direct violation of Title IX, subjecting the school districts to massive liability and putting an estimated $4.5 billion of federal funding from the U.S. Department of Education, as well as funding received by schools from other federal agencies, at risk.

This section of House Bill 2 offers costly supposed solutions to non-existent problems, and it forces schools to choose between complying with federal law -- plus doing the right thing for their students -- or complying with a state law that violates students’ civil rights. Read more about how this bill puts federal funding at risk here.

As a result of North Carolina’s HB2 law, which puts thousands of youth, citizens, employees, and visitors to the state at risk, more than 130 business leaders are calling for a repeal effort during the upcoming legislative session and a number of businesses have begun to remove investments from the state.

BOWIE'S BLOOD AND DIEHARD FANS DISAPPOINTED BY GAGA'S FAILED GRAMMY TRIBUTE...

BOWIE'S BLOOD AND DIEHARD FANS DISAPPOINTED BY GAGA'S FAILED GRAMMY TRIBUTE...
By @Lancesirlot
See the innovative collaboration from music's biggest night. Subscribe NOW to GRAMMYs on YouTube: http://grm.my/1dTBF8H About GRAMMYs: The recording industry's most prestigious award, the GRAMMY, is presented annually by The Recording Academy. A GRAMMY is awarded by The Recording Academy's voting membership to honor excellence in the recording arts and sciences.

Let's get this straight, we are fans of Lady Gaga.

There is no debating that she is an incredibly talented musician and actress.

In fact, Ms. Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta's recent "Best Actress" Golden Globe for her performance in "American Horror Story," was well deserved.

But, Gaga's tribute performance at the 73rd Grammy Awards show, in honor of the legendary David Bowie, is getting some serious criticism by Bowie fans and even Bowie's son, Duncan Jones, who tweeted his disdain after the tribute, "overexcited or irrational, typically as a result of infatuation or excessive enthusiasm; mentally confused." Damn it! What IS that word!?

Gaga's tribute kicked off with an extreme close up on her face, with an image of Ziggy Stardust's famous make-up, superimposed over her.  When Gaga started singing that's when the performance took a turn for the worse.  Dressed in a high waisted jump suit that looked more Elvis (circa late 70's) then Ziggy, she rushed through a disjointed medley of Bowie's legendary hits, including Space OddityChangesZiggy StardustSuffragette CityRebel RebelFashionFameUnder PressureLet's Dance and Heroes.

Unfortunately, Gaga's tribute seriously missed the mark.

Gaga's performance left fans wondering, was this a showcase for Gaga or a Bowie centric tribute?

Gaga's performance was more about a Gaga resurrection or comeback into the current music scene, then about honoring Bowies contributions and legacy to Rock music.

The tribute was chaotic and more about Gaga transforming into Bowie (at one point she even distorted her voice to emulate his signature sound) versus Gaga just simply being Gaga and singing (in her signature voice) a tribute to Bowie.   We would have preferred Gaga chose one song and put her unique spin on it.

We must admit, the entire production of the awards ceremony also displayed an unformatted, chaotic, disjointed collection of visuals.  The Director was off in the pacing and the sound quality confused viewers.

Now, lets not shoot the messenger.  Clearly, Gaga stepped up to the massive challenge.  She is an obvious fan and where were the other artists to pay tribute to Bowie this year?  Not one other well known musician felt compelled to honor Bowie?

There is no question Gaga is a super fan of Bowie and in the end she did ultimately honor his legacy just by taking a risk.  Sometimes the risk reward doesn't payoff but, taking a risk is essentially honoring the essence of what Bowie was all about.

Speaking of the music scene or shall we say, lack of music and more about an abundance of narcissistic self aggrandizement, the current music scene is entrenched in a formulaic machine that generates at best, mediocre music.  Overall, the music generated today seriously lacks elements of what Bowie's music symbolized:  real substance, originality, authenticity and a sense of sacrifice and struggle.

Bottom line, if Bowie represents the passing of a musical era and Gaga is the Millennial representative expected to carry on the spirit of Ziggy Stardust, then what will be the future of Rock and Roll?

Will any new artist truly carry on the substantial cultural impact that Bowie and several artists of that era contributed to society?

Only time will tell...

"THE FREE WORLD"

Directed & Written by Jason Lew

Starring:  Boyd Holbrook, Elisabeth Moss and Octavia Spencer.

Mo Lundy (Boyd Holbrook) is an innocent man who went to prison for murders he did not commit.  His time in lock-up changed him, forced him to resort to violence in order to survive, and vilified him as a monster even beyond the prison’s walls.  Now freed, Mo is looking to put the past behind him. He works at a shelter caring for abandoned animals, finds peace in the encouragement from his boss, Linda (Octavia Spencer), and faith in the practice of Islam. But Mo's tenuous stability is again upended when a desperate and blood-soaked woman, Doris (Elisabeth Moss) turns up unexpectedly at his work one night. With the intention of helping her, Mo takes Doris to his apartment. As the truth of Doris’ situation is revealed, Mo realizes that by sheltering her, his newfound freedom is in jeopardy.  Both outsiders, both victims of brutality, the two share a supportive and intimate connection. As that bond deepens and events escalate, Mo and Doris must determine a way towards freedom together or face an unforgiving world alone.

"THE EYES OF MY MOTHER"

Written and directed by NICOLAS PESCE

Starring:  Kika Magalhaes, Will Brill, Clara Wong, Flora Diaz and Olivia Bond

Francisca has been unfazed by death from an early age—her mother, formerly a surgeon in Portugal, imbued her with a thorough understanding of the human anatomy. When tragedy shatters her family’s idyllic life in the countryside, her deep trauma gradually awakens some unique curiosities. As she grows up, her desire to connect with the world around her takes a distinctly dark form.  Shot in crisp black and white, the haunting visual compositions of THE EYES OF MY MOTHER evoke its protagonist’s isolation and illuminate her deeply unbalanced worldview. Genre-inflected but so strikingly unique as to defy categorization, writer/director Nicolas Pesce’s stunning feature debut allows us only an elliptical presence in Francisca’s world, guiding our imaginations to follow her into peculiar, secret places.

"BRAHMAN NAMAN"

Directed by "Q"

Written by Naman Ramachandran

Starring:  Shashank Arora, Tanmay Dhanania, Sid Mallya, Vaiswath Shankar, Chaitanya Varad, Sindhu Sreenivasa Murthy

It’s the 1980s and Naman (Shashank Arora, star of Cannes hit TITLI) is a know-it-all nerd driven by the whims of his raging hormones. Heading up Bangalore University’s team of bespectacled misfits (best friends Ajay and Ramu), the trio of lusty intellectuals spend the majority of their time on the quizzing circuit, using their winnings to buy nudie magazines, whiskey, and beer, fantasizing about the buxom neighborhood beauty all the while. When the boys qualify for the National Quiz Championships, they make a booze-fuelled train trip across the country determined to defeat their rivals in Calcutta and desperate to lose their virginities along the way.  Unfolding to the tune of the iconic anthem, “Whiskey Bar,” as Naman and his friends run amok against the colorful backdrop of the Indian landscape, his quest for sex and glory is complicated when he finds his intellectual superior in a stunning female quizzer. Directed by Indian filmmaker Q. (known for his controversial cult hit GANDU) BRAHMAN NAMAN is a smart, raucous sex comedy that’s raunchy and endearing in equal measure— replete with innovative masturbation methods that put even Philip Roth’s Alexander Portnoy to shame.

"LOVE SONG"

Co-Writer and Directed by So Yong Kim

Starring:  Jena Malone (The Hunger Games), Riley Keough (The Girlfriend Experience, Mad Max), Brooklyn Decker (Grace and  Frankie), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color) and Rosanna Arquette.

Using the poetics of naturalism and minimalism in lieu of explicit dialogue and predictable labels, in LOVESONG, Sundance Film Festival alumna So Yong Kim (IN BETWEEN DAYS, TREELESS MOUNTAIN, FOR ELLEN) strips down the central relationship between two familiar but very distant friends, telling a complete story with sometimes no more than a gaze. Neglected by her husband, Sarah (Riley Keough) embarks on an impromptu road trip with her young daughter and her best friend, Mindy (Jena Malone). Along the way, the dynamic between the two friends intensifies before circumstances force them apart. Years later, Sarah attempts to rebuild their intimate connection in the days before Mindy's wedding to Leif (Ryan Eggold). Quietly cinematic and picturesque, and peppered with unexpected supporting turns from the likes of Rosanna Arquette, Brooklyn Decker and Amy Seimetz, LOVESONG is a bittersweet, beautifully modulated love story about muted desire and the grey areas that define every friendship, romance and marriage. 85m.

"KIKI"

Directed by Sara Jordenö    Written by SaraJordenö and Twiggy Pucci Garçon

**2016 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL - U.S. DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION**

**Official Selection - 2016 Berlinale Panorama**

A dynamic coming of age story about agency, resilience and the transformative artform that is voguing, KIKI offers riveting and complex insight into the daily lives of a group of LGBTQ youth-of-color who comprise the "Kiki" scene, a vibrant, safe space for performance created and governed by these activists. Following members of the scene as they prepare for and perform at exuberant Kiki balls in New York City, KIKI highlights the infectious joy of these performances, while also foregrounding the scene's urgent social function as an alternative family structure.   In this film collaboration between Kiki gatekeeper, Twiggy Pucci Garçon, and Swedish filmmaker Sara Jordenö, viewers are granted exclusive access into this high-stakes world, where fierce Ballroom competitions serve as a gateway into conversations surrounding Black- and Trans- Lives Matter movements.  This new generation of Ballroom youth use the motto, "Not About Us Without Us," and KIKI in kind has been made with extensive support and trust from the community, including an exhilarating score by renowned Ballroom and Voguing Producer Collective Qween Beat. Twiggy and Sara's insider-outsider approach to their stories breathes fresh life into the representation of a marginalized community who demand visibility and real political power. 94m.

BROOKLYN TODDLER AND MOTHER ALMOST KILLED BY RECKLESS UK BAND TOUR BUS DRIVER

Gina Giordan

Thursday, 1/28/16

At approximately 2:15 p.m. today, an unknown pop band's black luxury tour bus was recklessly barreling down Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn off of N. 6th street, just after clipping a baby carriage holding a one year old baby boy inside.

The baby and mother were traveling east on foot, crossing N. 6th street when the tour bus with Tennessee plates started turning into the carriage and never stopped.  The tour bus driver was traveling west on N. 6th street and proceeded to make a right turn onto Kent Avenue heading North.  The tour bus driver never yielded to the baby and "kept turning towards the carriage."  Horrified bystanders said the mother screamed at the bus, "Stop!  Stop!"  But, the driver "never stopped and just kept going."

The bus reportedly hit the carriage just before the mother ripped the stroller from the bus and dragged the carriage out of the intersection.  After pushing the baby to safety, the mother ran alongside the bus screaming, "Stop!"  The bus finally stopped on the next corner.  The mother informed the driver the bus clipped the carriage and almost killed her and her son.  The driver denied hitting the carriage and said, "you are in my way!" then slammed the bus door shut and sped off down Kent Avenue.  Eventually cops tracked down the Canadian driver and the tour bus which was parked along Meeker street and Richardson.  The pop band who hailed from the UK was scheduled to perform at the Williamsburg Music Hall.  The UK band base player was also on board during the accident and was only briefly detained and questioned by officers .   The driver was issued a warning for reckless endangerment and an accident report was created. Mom who acted fast, appeared understandably shaken up by the near death incident and was just thankful her son was not seriously hurt.  She attributed the fast save to her UPPABaby stroller, "This carriage helped save his life."

Supple Curls

Who wouldn’t want bouncy and shiny curls for the holidays. These last longer when adding Essence Absolute Oil by Shu Uemura into your volumizing gel or moose. Curating the perfect hair cocktail to keep the ends hydrated and shiny while keeping volume at the roots. Camelia oil known for its fastest absorbency will keep those ends split free and will keep your color looking vibrant just like Emily Ratajkowsk hair. Always use product to shield the shaft of hair prior to using a 1 inch iron to wind casual sections of hair around the barrel away from the face.

Smooth and Sleek

Straight, easy and disciplined is sometimes the best way to manage a super lengthy mane. To attain Selena’s sensual style one must contain the hair with a little love from Kerastase’s must have product called Crème de la Crème - lotion like crème with some heat protection, will keep those ends silky smooth and humidity controlled. Opt to using a little flat iron for that ultimate shine post blow-drying the entire head.

Easy Texture

Effortless and painless is the way I like to describe Kristen Stewart’s hair styles over the many we have seen her in some of our favorite movies. Weather in life or on camera, she puts the ideology of “I woke up like this” theory into real life, which is craved by the millions. The must have product to achieve a casual textured style is a star product called Texture Wave by Shu Uemura. Tussle, ruffle or style on dry hair, this miracle in a bottle is a great finish to a perfect blowout. The best way to set long hair for a few minutes to a half hour is to create a bun on top of your head and secure with a butterfly clip.

Wash and Go

Curly hair has now become manageable with the ultimate holiday luxury of a lightweight gel, which will tame and sculpt your curls to a manageable air died texture. Have you always craved Helena Bonham Carter’s luscious, bouncy texture. Kerastase has revolutionized a product called Curl Fever - brilliant gel to be applied on wet hair. Diffused with a blow-dryer or air-died this product will continue to make you crave more of it the minute it runs out. For curls which are uneven my favorite tool to use is a curling wand to sculpt those curls with a bit more balance to its shape.

The 73rd Annual Golden Globe nominees were released, Thursday, December 10, 2015. Several A-List nominees made the cut again this year including:  Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Bryan Cranston and Eddie Redmayne.   Fans of the mega popular TV Series, Game Of Thrones” and  “Orange Is The New Black” can sigh in relief as both series were recognized and received GG nominations this season.

Some of the biggest celebs and category nominations include:

Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama:  Rooney Mara, Brie Larson, and Cate Blanchett.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama: Bryan Cranston, Eddie Redmayne, and Leonardo DiCaprio

Best Motion Picture, Drama: “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Carol” and “Room”

Best Motion Picture, Comedy: “The Big Short,” “The Martian,” and “Trainwreck”

Best Director - Motion Picture: Alejandro Iñárritu for “The Revenant” and George Miller for “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

“Carol” led with a total of 5 nominations, followed by “The Revenant,” “Steve Jobs,” and “The Big Short” receiving 4 nominations each.

You can read the COMPLETE list of nominees HERE.

Biggests fan upsets?  When it comes to TV series, “Mad Men,”  “The Walking Dead,” and “House of Cards” all of these series did not receive any noms from The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).   When it comes to feature films, fans moaned when they realized the big Bio Drama,  “Straight Outta Compton” received not one Golden Globe nom this season.

Notable actors who did NOT receive a GG nom this season are Tom Hardy in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Tom Hanks in “Bridge of Spies,” and Johnny Depp in “Black Mass.”

If Hardy, Hanks and Depp aren’t enough of a blow to “Globe” fans just think of how Meryl Streep feels...

The HFPA did NOT recognize the 8-Time Golden Globe winner this season, who stars in a film based on the true story, “The Suffragette.”  Streep portrays Emmeline Pankhurst, a British political activist who was part of the Women's Social and Political Union during the feminist movement in the early 1900s.  The film received a 72% on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 6.6/10.

Streep currently holds the record for the most Golden Globe nominations (29).

American composer, John Williams with comes close with 25 GG noms.

Williams is best known for creating memorable soundtracks in numerous films including:   “Jaws,” “E.T.: Extra Terrestrial,” and “Saving Private Ryan.”

We have no idea if Meryl is upset she didn’t get the nom this season but, one thing is for sure, Streep will have to wait till next year to see if she can break her own record with a 30th Golden Globe nomination.

You can tune in to the Golden Globes on NBC, January 10th, 2016 @ 8 pm to see the lucky winners.

JON STEWART RETURNS TO THE DAILY SHOW AS A VIP GUEST TO SUPPORT 9/11 FIRST RESPONDERS

GMG ENTERTAINMENT

The Daily Show/Comedy Central

The Daily Show/Comedy Central

Former host of “The Daily Show”, Jon Stewart recently made a guest appearance on his former Emmy award winning series, that he hosted from 1999 - 2015.  The current “Daily Show” host, Trevor Noah replaced Jon in August.  This wasn’t Stewart’s first appearance back on the show since Noah took over but, this time Jon was on a mission.  Noah made it clear that Stewart can use the show as a platform to speak out to millions of viewers and told Jon, “My show is your show!”  Noah was thrilled to support Stewart who has been on a mission pushing lawmakers to extend the Zadroga Health & Compensation Act.  The Zadroga Act ensures that 9/11 first time responders get the treatment and health care services they need for extenuating issues related to 9/11.

There are over 33,000 9/11 first responders who have or still suffer from serious health complications directly related to being at ground zero.  The illnesses range from sinus problems to lung cancer.

In 2009, the Zadroga Bill was born yet lawmakers refused to pass the bill.

It was in 2010, that Stewart went on a relentless mission.  The “Daily Show” host made getting the bill passed a priority and even dedicated an entire episode to the cause by inviting four first responders who suffered from ongoing ailments to come on his show and share their personal stories.

Stewart says it was his personal connection to 9/11 that initially motivated him to support the cause.  At the time of the 9/11 attacks, Stewart and his family lived in Tribeca and essentially experienced day to day life in a war zone for the next decade.  In 2010, Stewart’s efforts paid off. Lawmakers passed the Zadroga Bill with a five year life span.  Several lawmakers even thanked Stewart for his dedication to the cause.

Unfortunately, the bill has expired since September 30.

Jon has picked up his mission once again and recently accompanied a group of 9/11 first responders to Washington, D.C. to face the government head on, asking them to do the right thing.

Stewart made an effort to invite all the first responders to appear on the Daily Show once again and was saddened to hear only one was healthy enough to attend.

Stewart has continued to be just as dedicated to the cause. While in D.C. he held a public press conference in hopes to convince senators to support the permanent extension of the Zadroga Act. Unfortunately, not one senator recognized Stewart’s attempt in person.  Jon eventually chose to go public once again and discuss the topic last night on “The Daily Show” he said, “The people of Congress are not as good a people as the people who are first responders.” Stewart continued to publicly call out Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to keep his promise and permanently extend the Zadroga Act.

To close out his recent “Daily Show” appearance, Stewart made an enthusiastic call to action and told viewers to utilize their social media resources and attract the attention of Congress, “Stop the f*ckery” he quipped.  Stewart also instructed fans to start using the hashtag “#worstresponders.”

Country Singer and 2016 Grammy Nominee, Chris Stapleton Crossover Into Mainstream Music!

GMG ENTERTAINMENT

CTV News

CTV News

The 2016 Grammy Award nominations are out.  Several “mainstream” artists who won last year received nominations again including:  Ms. Taylor Swift and The Weeknd who both received 7 nominations each. Rapper, Kendrick Lamar is the leading nominee with 11 nominations.

One singer/songwriter whose album was nominated for a Grammy this year isn’t exactly a household name, Chris Stapleton.  His debut album, “Traveller” is nominated for “Album of the Year.”  Stapleton a Country singer/songwriter from Kentucky, recently won three CMA awards, including “Male Vocalist of the Year.”

When the Grammy nominee news hit earlier today, the internet exploded as music fans reacted to the nominees.  On Twitter @purposetori tweeted, “Who is Chris Stapleton?”

@csnyder tweeted, “I did not even know Chris Stapleton until the CMA’s this year.”

twitter image

Stapleton may not be a household name but he’s no overnight success either.  Stapleton has been in the music business for the past fifteen years.  The award winning songwriter has collaborated with some of the biggest names in Country music including: Kenney Chesney, Luke Bryan, Josh Turner, and Darius Rucker.

If there was a defining moment in Stapleton’s career, he may agree it was the moment he stepped onstage and performed live, “Tennessee Whiskey” and “Drink You Away” alongside Justin Timberlake at the CMA Awards.  Timberlake and Stapleton’s soulful performance truly marked Chris’ successful transition into mainstream music.

Stapleton isn’t the first artist to crossover to mainstream music or the first underground musician to gain world-wide popularity from collaborating with a famous musician.  Sia, Butch Walker, Jessie J and Keri Hilson all have careers that gained mass appeal from collaborating with more well-known artists.

In 2009, Jessie J wrote the hit song, "Party in the USAfor Miley Cyrus.  In 2011, Jessie released her debut album, “Big White Room.”  Jessie J recently revealed, thanks to writing for Cyrus she was able to pay her bills.

"Knock You Downsinger Keri Hilson sparked her solo career shortly after writing the Britney Spears hit "Break The Ice.”  Hilson was also featured in Timbaland's “The Way I Are,” in 2007.

Before Singer/Songwriter, Butch Walker went solo, he was one of the music industry's most sought after writer/producers in the biz.  Walker was well known for creating award winning hit songs with mainstream artists; Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne, P!nk, and Katy Perry.  Butch recently released a book, documentary and a solo album,“Afraid of Ghosts,” earlier this year.

Several artists have thanked Sia for penning them a hit song.  Christina Aguilera's"You Lost Me" was written by Sia.  The artist is also well known for writing "Pretty Hurtsfor Beyonce and "Diamonds" for Rihanna.  Sia has admitted she not only made millions from those collaborations but now she has a world famous signature hairstyle and hit song, "Chandelier.

Don’t be surprised to see Stapleton win the Grammy for best album.  You’ll have to wait till next year to find out.  The 58th Annual Grammy Awards airs live on February 18, 2016.

Scott Weiland, Lead Singer of Stone Temple Pilots, Passes Away

Gina Giordan

Scott Weiland, the lead singer of 90’s cult band Stone Temple Pilots and the rock supergroup Velvet Revolver, passed away last night in his sleep.   He was 48 years old.  Weiland was a very versatile musician whose career was sadly marred by problems with addiction.

According to his representatives, Weiland died in his sleep on his tour bus.  The singer and his new band, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, were set to perform in Rochester, Minneapolis on Friday, and the band’s show outside of Minneapolis on Thursday night had been cancelled due to low ticket sales.  Last March, the Wildabouts lost guitarist Jeremy Brown, who died from drug intoxication, the day before the band release their debut album, Blaster.

While the current cause of Weiland’s death is unknown, TMZ reports that according to the police recordings, the singer suffered a cardiac arrest.  Whether this arrest was induced by any substances has not yet been confirmed.

Weiland’s career skyrocketed after the initial success of his band, Stone Temple Pilots.  The the band was commercially successful, because their sound was considered more popular and accessible than the sound of other grunge bands of the time.

The success of Stone Temple Pilots set Weiland on a dangerous path.  The singer, who had struggled with alcoholism and abuse in his youth, struggled with bipolar disorder, and turned to heroin and the band had to disband after Weiland’s antics.  The band eventually reunited in 2008, but that year Weiland was sentenced to eight days in prison after pleading no contest to a drink driving charge.

Weiland is survived by his two children Lucy and Noah of his marriage with Mary Fosberg, and his wife, photographer Jamie Watchel Weiland, who married Scott in 2013.

The music world reacted to Weiland’s death.  Lenny Kravitz lamented the event on his Twitter:

Dave Navarro, the guitarist for 90’s band Jane’s Addiction also expressed his thoughts on Twitter, and encouraged people to think of Weiland’s family.
