MALE DIRECTOR TELLS JESSICA CHASTAIN NOT TO TALK ABOUT "WOMEN STUFF" ON SET

Mike Rosenthal/American Way

Mike Rosenthal/American Way

Jessica Chastain, a constant advocate for gender equality in Hollywood, recently opened up about a past brush with sexism she faced while speaking to a male director.  Chastain told American Way in a new interview, “I had one male director say to me that I talk too much about all of this ‘women stuff.’  This is a person I love, and maybe he was concerned I would hurt my career.”  She continued, “I’m not attacking anyone.  I’m trying to create more inclusiveness, compassion and empathy, which in turn makes better movies, better art.”

Chastain founded the production company Freckle Films in order to combat Hollywood gender inequality.  When asked about the company, Chastain expressed her frustrations with gender issues today: “I just don’t know why it’s not changing…I’m doing my part to make the change, so why isn’t everyone else?”

Chastain has been outspoken about gender equality in the workplace, and addressed “gender imbalance” in Hollywood before.  Chastain wrote a letter for The Hollywood Reporter, where she addressed the issue of sexism on a film shoot: “When you have both genders represented, then you have a healthier point of view.  The energy is great, you all are working together as a community, and everyone is participating in the exchange of ideas.  You don't feel a hierarchy; you don't have anyone feeling like they are being left out or bullied or humiliated.  Sometimes being the only girl on a set, you can feel like a sexual object.”

Chastain has also spoken about the gender pay gap in Hollywood.  In a 2016 interview with Variety, Chastain said, “We’re supposed to be a mirror that’s held up to society and tells the story of what’s happening around us.  And sometimes the American film industry only tells the stories of a few and I don’t want my story to be erased.  I want to see women out there and I want them to be equally compensated for the work that they do.”

JENNIFER GARNER WANTS TRUMP TO HELP AMERICA’S IMPOVERISHED CHILDREN

Larry French/Getty Images

Larry French/Getty Images

Jennifer Garner, a liberal-minded actress who supported Hillary Clinton in the last election, has voiced her desire to work with Donald Trump to help impoverished American children.  Garner has been a longtime early education advocate for poor children in places like the West Virginia community where she was raised.  Garner has been a board member of the Save the Children nonprofit organization for almost a decade, which has brought her to Washington, D.C. on many occasions to advocate for underprivileged rural areas.

This past weekend, Garner went to the White House to continue her efforts.  Garner has decided to put politics aside in favor of asking Trump for help, she told The Washington Post, “If he’s willing to help the poor kids who got him elected, then let’s do it.  They certainly think he’s going to.”  Garner said, “I’m looking forward to helping him make good on what they saw as promises, a mandate from him, that he was going to make their lives better.”

Garner said many politicians she has met claim they will help with childhood funding, but don’t follow through: “Everyone’s nodding and couldn’t agree more, and shaking your hand and want their picture.  But when the vote is cast, nobody’s out there screaming and yelling for poor kids.”  Garner continued, “Send me a ticket to Mar-a-Lago.  I’m ready to go down and have a steak and a good chat.  I really think it’s great, if [Trump]’s willing to help the poor kids who got him elected.”

Garner’s work with Save the Children includes urging Congress and state governments to “fund reading and literacy programs that include all-day kindergarten.”  Garner said, “You just wouldn’t believe the number of kids who have never heard a nursery rhyme.”

The Washington Post reported Garner’s activities in D.C. over the weekend: “The 44-year-old actress spent the weekend lobbying the town’s pillars of power to support early education for poor rural children.  She spent Friday on Capitol Hill meeting dozens of top staff members.  On Saturday, she delivered the keynote address before the annual National Governors Association winter meeting here.”  Garner also had a planned sit-down with Ivanka Trump, but it was canceled due to scheduling conflicts.  The actress looks forward to making the meeting happen sometime in the future.

CELEBS TWEET IN SUPPORT OF TRANSGENDERS AFTER TRUMP LIFTS BATHROOM PROTECTION LAWS

Jonathan Ernst/Reuters

Jonathan Ernst/Reuters

On Wednesday, the Donald Trump administration reversed Barack Obama’s federal protection laws that allowed transgender students to use whichever bathroom corresponds to their gender identity.  The White House explained Trump’s decision in a statement: "As President Trump has clearly stated, he believes policy regarding transgender bathrooms should be decided at the state level.  The joint decision made today by the Department of Justice and the Department of Education paves the way for an open and inclusive process to take place at the local level with input from parents, students, teachers and administrators."

The reversal sparked protests and angered several civil rights groups, such as the American Civil Liberties Union.  The LGBT project director for the ACLU, James Esseks, said: "Revoking the guidance shows that the president's promise to protect LGBT rights was just empty rhetoric.  But the bottom line is that this does not undo legal protections for trans students, and school districts can and must continue to protect them and all students from discrimination.  School districts that recognize that should continue doing the right thing; for the rest, we'll see them in court."

Obama’s decision to protect transgender rights in the bathroom had previously been celebrated among civil rights groups, including the ACLU.  The group wrote about Obama’s move: “This is a BIG deal – the federal government just made history and set clear standards to protect transgender people!”

Several celebrities took to Twitter to express their outrage at Trump revoking the protections, and show their support of the transgender community.  THE WANNA has gathered the reaction tweets below.

CELEBS TWEET OUT ABOUT THE LATEST TRAVEL BAN RULING!

Thomas Samson/AFP/Getty Images

Thomas Samson/AFP/Getty Images

On Thursday, a federal appeals court ruled against reinstating Donald Trump’s immigration ban.  The panel of three California-based judges refused to lift the block from a previous lower court ruling.  Trump’s executive order, signed in January, barred Syrian refugees and immigrants from the Muslim-majority countries of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the U.S.

The federal appeals court ruling did not sit well with Trump, who tweeted in response:

On Friday, Trump announced the White House will come up with new security measures next week and continue trying to lift the court's block on his order.  At a news conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Trump said, "We will be doing something very rapidly having to do with additional security for our country.  You will be seeing that sometime next week."

Hollywood celebrities took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the court’s decision and react to Trump’s response tweet.  THE WANNA has compiled a list of celeb tweets below.

On Sunday night, approximately 111 million people tuned in to watch Super Bowl LI, which was held at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.  The New England Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 after a huge comeback from the Patriots, leading to Tom Brady becoming the first quarterback to win five Super Bowl titles.  Lady Gaga gave a halftime show performance that the internet loved, celebrities posted their festivities on Snapchat and Instagram, and the game set Twitter abuzz for most the night.

And this year, the Super Bowl brought viewers some of the best new commercials of 2017.  Each year, the Super Bowl is well known for premiering some of the most creative, entertaining and moving commercials.  Companies spend millions of dollars on their Super Bowl ads to make sure they are top-notch entertainment.  According to the New York Times, the average cost of a 30-second ad during this year’s Super Bowl LI was $5 million, up from $4.8 million a year ago.  On top of that, some companies are spending upwards of $12 million to advertise the commercials before the actual game, which shows just how big an impact the Super Bowl ads can be on viewers.

THE WANNA has gathered the TOP 5 of the most watched Super Bowl LI commercials below.  Enjoy!

Tide – Terry Bradshaw Stain

This creative ad mixed reality into its premise when Terry Bradshaw showed up on live television with a red stain on his white shirt.  The stain was a ploy to set up the Tide ad that came later, which followed Bradshaw’s hilarious journey to get his dirty shirt cleaned.  Bradshaw ends up in Jeffrey Tambor’s house, the star of the original three-part Tide commercial with Rob Gronkowski, and washes his shirt using new Tide PODS Plus Downey.

No stain deserves fame. Check out how Terry Bradshaw found a better clean with Jeffrey Tambor and new Tide PODS® Plus Downy.

Audi – Daughter

This Audi commercial involved a father’s narration about how he would have to tell his daughter that the men in her life are “worth more” than she is, despite her “drive” and “intelligence.”  The ad called attention to the gender wage gap with an ending title card that said: “Audi of America is committed to equal pay for equal work.”

Progress is in every decision we make, every technology we invent, every vehicle we build. It's our past, our future, our reason to exist. Audi of America is committed to equal pay for equal work. A 2016 report by the U.S.

Budweiser – Born The Hard Way

In the 60-second ad, which cost about $10 million, Budweiser showed the journey the company’s founder, Adolphus Busch, faced while immigrating to America.  After his arrival on U.S. soil, Busch is greeted with jeers from people saying, “You’re not wanted here!  Go back home!”  After the commercial aired, Trump supporters called for a Budweiser boycott.  But Budweiser has clarified that the ad had nothing to do with Trump’s immigration ban: "Our focus this week is on our Super Bowl ads and our brands.  We created the Budweiser commercial to highlight the ambition of our founder, Adolphus Busch, and his unrelenting pursuit of the American dream.  This is a story about our heritage and the uncompromising commitment that goes into brewing our beer.  It's an idea we've been developing along with our creative agency for nearly a year."

HOLLYWOOD CAN'T STOP TRUMP BUT SPRINGSTEEN, LAWRENCE AND MANY MORE CONTINUE TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST THE IMMIGRATION BAN!

Getty Images

Getty Images

Last week, Donald Trump signed an executive order, known as the “Muslim ban,” that barred refugees and people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S.  Thousands of Americans have joined forces to protest the immigration ban since then, including a number of famous faces.  Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Lawrence, and Arnold Schwarzenegger are some of the celebrities who have spoken out or taken action against the ban.  THE WANNA has compiled a list of all the celebs who have made a stand against Trump’s immigration order below.

Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen sent a strong political message at his recent concert in Adelaide, Australia.  On stage Springsteen addressed, “the Muslim ban and the detention of foreign Nationals and refugees.”  He continued: “America is a land of immigrants.  This is fundamentally un-American.  This is a song about immigrants.”  He then performed, “American Land,” to cheers from the crowd.

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, which took a jab at the Trump administration:

Kal Penn

After a bigoted Twitter user told Kal Penn, “You don’t belong in this country,” Penn created a crowd-funding campaign to aid Syrian refugees in response to the hater.  Penn’s crowdrise page is called, “Donating to Syrian refugees in the name of the dude who said I don’t belong in America.”  The page states: “We are better than the hateful people who tell us we don't belong in our own country, that America can't be a beacon of freedom and hope for refugees from around the world. We will turn their bigotry, along with the President's, into love.”  So far, the fundraiser has raised over $750,000.

Sia

Sia pledged to match up to $100,000 in donations to the American Civil Liberties Union the day after Trump signed the immigration order.  Sia tweeted:

This prompted other celebrities to follow suit, including Rosie O’Donnell and Judd Apatow, who vowed to join Sia in her donations pledge.

Bella and Gigi Hadid

The Hadid sisters, both of Muslim descent, joined others on the streets of New York to protest the Muslim ban.  The duo held a sign that said, “We are all Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Atheists, Christians, Jews,” highlighting the letters that spell out the word “humans.”  Other celebs to join the Muslim ban protests include Ellen Page and Chloe Grace Moretz.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke out about Trump’s Muslim ban in an interview with Mario Lopez on Extra.  Schwarzenegger, who Trump recently mocked for his Celebrity Apprentice ratings on Twitter, discussed the way in which Trump went about creating the ban.  Schwarzenegger said, “I think the real problem is that it was vetted badly.  If they would run this by the Justice Department and Homeland Security and had the lawyers really study and focus on it and give it some time to do it the right way.”  He continued, “To go and ban people who have a green card, that means that the United States of America has given you permission to work here permanently and you are on the way to permanent citizenship.  I was in that position.  It’s crazy, it’s crazy and makes us look stupid when the White House is ill-prepared to put this kind of executive order out there.”

Check out THE WANNA’s latest post to see how celebs at the 2017 SAG Awards spoke out about Trump’s immigration ban.

SAG WINNER, ACTOR MAHERSHALA ALI GIVES THE MOST MOVING AND GLOBAL MESSAGE OF THE NIGHT!

Dave McNary/Reuters

The 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards were held Sunday night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA.  The SAG Awards followed in the wake of President Trump’s Muslim ban and executive order to practice “extreme vetting” upon immigrants and refugees entering the United States.  Many SAG Award-nominated celebrities were outraged by Trump’s actions, which led to an emotional and politically-charged night in Hollywood.

Mahershala Ali, who won for his supporting role in Moonlight, gave a personal and emotional speech about being a Muslim during Trump’s immigration ban.  In his speech, Ali explained how the film Moonlight teaches acceptance of those who are different instead of persecution.  Ali said, “I hope that we do a better job of that,” to the sounds of cheers and applause from the audience.  Ali continued to say how each person is unique and that we must accept each other, rather than “go to war.”  Ali revealed that his mother, an ordained minister, was not thrilled when he converted to Islam.  Ali said, “We put things to the side, and I’m able to see her, she’s able to see me.  We love each other, the love has grown, and that stuff is minutiae.  It’s not that important.”  You can watch the rest of Ali’s moving speech below.

Several other celebrities came to the SAG Awards with Trump’s immigration ban in mind.  Kerry Washington and Simon Helberg both showed up on the red carpet with visual protests of the Muslim ban.  Other celebrities who took the stage during the SAG Awards, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep), Taraji P. Henson (Hidden Figures), and David Harbour (Stranger Things) used the opportunity to address Trump’s actions and share poignant messages of unity.  THE WANNA has gathered some of the most moving and politically-minded moments of the 2017 SAG Awards below for you to enjoy.

BEST CELEB TWEETS FROM THE FINAL CLINTON VS. TRUMP DEBATE

Joe Raedle/AP

Joe Raedle/AP

Millions of Americans tuned into CNN last night to watch Clinton and Trump fight dirty during the final Presidential debate, at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.  The moderator, registered Democrat, Fox News Host, Chris Wallace kicked off the debate with a "take no prisoners" attitude.  Wallace stuck to the script for the most part and kept the candidates in line.  The "nasty" back and forth zingers between Trump and Hill didn't disappoint.

Trump called Clinton, “a nasty woman,” and Clinton called Trump a “puppet.”  Americans will miss watching the entertaining and controversial exchanges between Trump and Hill.  Yes, we can thank Trump for his unconventional approach to politics.  But, all the fun isn't over just yet.  You can bet the debate will continue online.  Donald does love to lash out during his late night tweet sessions.  Trump isn't the only one tweeting politics.  Twitter has been a major resource for the entire nation during this election.   Numerous famous faces have voiced their opinions via Twitter.  The WANNA has been following the celebrity tweets posted each presidential debate.  The final debate generated some serious anti-Trump celebrity tweets.

Aaron Paul attacked Trump’s grammar and tweeted, “Very much smarter. –Trump.”  Others blatantly tweeted their support for Hillary.  Patton Oswalt tweeted, “Hillary trying not to laugh at Pasty McHonky saying 'hombre.'"

Monday, October 17th, Hollywood A-list came out to sing and dance, in hopes to help raise funds for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.  The star-studded Clinton fundraiser concert was held at the St. James Theatre in New York City.  Fans that couldn't snag a ticket to the concert tuned into Clinton's YouTube and Facebook pages which streamed the event live!  The night turned into a Hollywood who's, who event with several big time celebs who all said, "I'm with her!" including: Neil Patrick Harris, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Angela Bassett, Billy Crystal, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Julia Roberts, Emily Blunt, Ansel Elgort and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The WANNA voted and delivered the best moments of the night below!  Drum roll please....

Lin-Manuel Miranda Reworks Hamilton Song

At a Hillary Clinton benefit fundraiser on Monday night, celebrities from Hollywood and Broadway joined forces to support the Democratic presidential nominee. Broadway's biggest star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, took the stage to sing "Ten Duel Commandments," one of his hit songs from his musical Hamilton, but he personalized the song for Hillary Clinton.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator and star of hit play Hamilton, rapped about Clinton and the importance of voting in a rewritten version of the song, "The World Was Wide Enough."  One memorable lyric goes, “Anybody here wanna shatter a glass ceiling?”

Neil Patrick Harris reprised his Tony-winning role in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.”  He sang the song, “The Origin of Love” with a troupe of backup ballet dancers, which presented a beautiful, moving spectacle.

Angela Bassett and Helen Mirren Speeches

Taking a break from all the song and dance, Angela Bassett recited Sojourner Truth’s “Ain’t I A Woman?” speech, while Helen Mirren performed a speech from Elizabeth Roosevelt.  Both A-listers called to mind the strength of women in our country’s past, as a salute to Hillary Clinton in her leadership role today.

Barbara Streisand “Phones In”

Barbara Streisand, one of the greatest singers of our time, lent her voice to the fundraiser, where she made introductions for the concert from Los Angeles.  She also appeared in a video for “Climb Every Mountain,” alongside Jamie Foxx.

And Of Course, Hillary Clinton’s Screen Appearance

Clinton herself could not make the fundraiser, but she did appear on screen in a good-humored segment.  She joked, “I auditioned for tonight's show and I wanted to sing with you, but Harvey and Jordan said I didn't make the cut,” in reference to the event’s producers, Harvey Weinstein and Jordan Roth.  She also said, “We’re in the final stretch of this campaign and we need your help to reach as many people as possible between now and election day.”
